| My School Musical - Years 5 and 6 Performance |
|
Tuesday 20th July 1:30 - 2:45pm and Wednesday 21st July 6:30 - 7:45pm
In this show, Walsgrave School is thrown into uproar when a television production company, together with a team of celebrity judges, descend, looking for talented children with great ideas for a school musical. In the best tradition of reality TV, the auditions take place. The divas are out in force, all convinced that they will win the recording contract, millionaire lifestyle and become mega-stars. Boys and girls have different ideas of what would make a good production and there is a great deal of hilarity as well as impressive displays of sporting, dancing and musical ability, as the children reflect on past and future adventures and the importance of friendship.

Thanks from the ECO council |
|
On behalf of the ECO council at Walsgrave CE, I would like to say a huge thankyou to all the children, parents and staff who joined us in collecting the litter around the perimeter of our school on Thursday 24th June.
We were very successful, and I think you'll agree with me when I say this area looks so much better.
In all we collected about 10 bags of litter.

Ofsted 2010 - An Outstanding Result!! |
|
We are delighted to share the outcome of our Ofsted Inspection. The overall effectiveness of the school was graded as OUTSTANDING as was our capacity for sustained improvement.
The new Ofsted framework was introduced in September 2009. We are absolutely thrilled with the result as only 6% of primary schools in the country had achieved this status by December 2009.
The Inspection Team praised the quality of the education provided and the way in which the curriculum was tailored to individual pupil’s needs. Pupil’s behaviour was considered to be ‘Outstanding’. Teaching is ‘Good’, ensuring all pupils make good /exceptional progress. The curriculum was described as ‘impressive’ and had been developed in such a way as to meet our children’s needs. Leadership and Management, including that of the Governing Body, was also judged as ‘Outstanding’. The quality of our self evaluation was judged as being ‘rigorous’ and has resulted in appropriate initiatives to improve the provision.
I consider it to be a great privilege to be a part of Walsgrave C of E Primary School and that it is a super place to be. I would like to say a very big personal thank you to all the children, staff, Governors and parents who have been part of our journey in achieving this superb outcome.
Yours sincerely

Year 2 had a fantastic time when they were joined by some very special guests at a campfire evening held back at school on 19th May. Year 2 thought that it would be great to invite their fellow Year 2 friends from Sacred Heart Primary School in Brays Lane, Coventry to share the occasion. Thank you to Mr and Mrs Page who lead the events and helped to make the evening a memorable one! Thank you also to Mrs Quinn (Head Teacher at Sacred Heart) for lending us your year 2 children!

Religious Education (Update) |
|
At Walsgrave Church of England Primary School, Religious Education plays a central and vital part. As a Church school we aim to help children develop their own spirituality and grow in their faith. We promote a Christian ethos throughout the school which promotes peace and reconciliation and we ensure children have a knowledge and understanding of other world religions and are tolerant and respectful of all beliefs.
We bring faith alive by inviting visitors to talk about their faith and by arranging trips to places of worship. This year Year 1 have been visited by Mrs. Samra, a Sikh mother, and her baby, Year 2 have visited the Gurdwara Nanak Sar, Year 3 and 4 have visited Coventry Cathedral and the whole school has enjoyed meditating together led by the Venerable Manapo, a Buddhist Monk. In the Summer term, Year 5 and 6 will be visiting the Shree Krishna Hindu Temple.
We explore Christianity in exciting and fresh ways. We use Drama, Music, Dance, Art to develop children's understanding of religion. A Christian Dancer has used modern dance to inspire us and will be working with Year 6 to do some Christian Dance Workshops in the Summer Term. |

Coventry Inspires Writing |
|
Following the success of the writing competition linked to the Inspiration Book Awards in 2008 and 2009, the Coventry Telegraph is again joining with the City Council to promote creative writing. The competition was launched on 29 April in the Telegraph, Morris Gleitzman, winning author in the 2010 Book Awards, has supplied the story starter:
I've lived round here for the last ten years, ever since I was born. So I should know when something's wrong. And something is. Look at that road sign. Look at this gas bill of Mum's. Look at that kid wearing a local football shirt. Covntry. Covntry. Covntry. All with the letter e missing. It should be Coventry. This place has an e. That's how it's always been. The es were there last night when I went to bed. This morning, all gone. I'm not imagining this. Look at everyone standing around staring at shop banners and the fronts of buses and the sign outside the public library. Everyone's scratching their heads, puzzled. 'What's happened?' everyone is saying. 'Where's the e gone?' I was puzzled too at first. Then I remembered what happened yesterday.
Budding writers have up to 200 words to complete the story.
